Beach FC Sends Two Teams to Atlanta

The US Youth Soccer National League kicks off the 2011-2012 season this weekend in Atlanta, GA. U16 Teams will be in search of earning automatic bids to next summer's US Youth Soccer National Championships. Beach FC will be represented for the first time by Beach FC "White" (coached by Fred Velez and Mauricio Ingrassia) who will travel on Wednesday to Atlanta. The National League is a 16 team competition, broken up into two 8-team divisions. The winner of each "division" will go directly to the USYS National Finals next year Rock Hill, South Carolina in July. The first 4 games of NL are in Atlanta, with the final 3 games coming at the Players Showcase in March in Las Vegas, Nevada. This follows other earlier "firsts" for this team. They were the first to go to a Far West Regional tournament, and now they are the first to compete in the National League! They will quickly become "road warriors" and have experiences that will shape their young lives. ESPN published a story on this tournament and highlights some players on the Beach FC White team (read). Teams will play one game each day, Thursday through Sunday. Coach Velez will report on the experience in the Blog section.
Separately, the Beach FC girls U16 team ("FC", also coached by Mauricio Ingrassia) will also be in Atlanta this weekend competeing in the Final Four Showcase. This event is an opportunity for elite teams to play in front of over 200 college coaches looking to build their future teams. The Showcase is designed to coincide with the NCAA College Cup for women's soccer that will take place in Atlanta. To follow the results of this tournament, visit the tournament website.

Beach Girls, coached by Danny Pena, had to play six tough games in the prestigious Blues Cup to bring home the GOLD! On the way to the final they defeated El Dorado(Canada), Lightning, FC Blades, and Sharks. The final was a rematch against Arsenal to whom they had lost in the group stage. When it really counted Beach came up big, winning 3-1. Besides the trophy, all players came home with Blues Cup Champs shirts, Jamba Juice coupons, and pink Puma soccer balls. Congrats to our Beach girls on this big win! |
