The main focus of this camp is Ball Mastery.
We believe that Ball mastery (the ability to manipulate the ball) is key
to progressing as a soccer player. A player must be able to control the
ball in aspects of the game to be able to develop tactically too. We use
a collage of various skill based training methods to learn the Beach way.

SHORT SIDED
4X4 GAMES
In soccer, dribbling skills are key. The most sought
after talent at any level is and will continue to be the creative dribbler.
4v4 and other street style small-sided games have evolved as a part of
the youth soccer culture in Latin America, Africa, as well as, parts of
Europe. This culture has produced some of the most creative players the
world has ever seen, such as Pele, Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Cristiano
Ronaldo. All of whom grew up playing in the streets and in small sided
games. Which helped develop their rare talents and confidence through
the freedom to be creative and not have to worry just about the “WIN”
but the style points from their peers.
This idea is supported by a quote in an article featured in Soccer America
from July 2002. Landon Donovan, a member of the US National team and LA
Galaxy, stated the following; “As a kid you need to touch the ball
as much as you can. You should always be with the ball. You should have
a feeling that wherever the ball is, you can do anything with it. No matter
where it is, where it is on your body, how it’s spinning, how it’s
coming at you, the speed it’s coming at you, anything. You can learn
the tactical side of the game later. It’s amazing to me that the
people put so much emphasis on trying to be tactical and worry about winning
when it doesn’t matter when you’re 12 years old. We’re
going to have big, strong, fast players. We’re Americans, we’re
athletes. But if we never learn at an early age to be good on the ball,
then it’s just useless.”
With all that being said, Long Beach Soccer Club’s goal in this
league is to help reduce the burnout of its players by creating a fun
environment, as well as, focusing on becoming a leader in the quest of
the U.S. National Soccer programs to produce well-rounded players with
the confidence to succeed at any level they seek. Playing small-sided
games like 4v4 will help this quest by maximizing the number of contacts
a player has with the ball during a game and supports the confidence needed
to be a creative player.
The rules for the league are:
1) Teams will play multiple 10 min games per day
2) There will be no coaching from the trainers or parents during the games
3) Players will call their own fouls and outs
4) The roster for each team will be limited to 4 players however,
those players may change from game to game. |
