
Munoz Hired as U14 White Coach

Beach Soccer Club welcomes Mike Munoz as a new coaching staff member,
coaching the boys U14 white team. Michael Munoz grew up playing in
the Irvine Striker system under head coach Eddie Soto while attending
Los Alamitos High School. At Los Al he was a four year varsity and starter
and led the Griffins to the Sunset League Title his senior year.
He was named Orange County Coaches Association
MVP, Sunset League Offensive MVP, First Team All League and First Team
All CIF. After Los Al Munoz went on to play four years at the University
of California Berkeley. He started 60 of 63 games that he was involved
in recording 14 goals and 14 assists over his college career. As
a freshman he garnered 2nd Team All Pac 10 and 3rd Team All-West Region
honors. His sophomore and junior year he notched First Team All-Pac
10 and 2nd Team All West-Region. He was also two-year captain for
the Golden Bears his junior and senior year. In 2002 Munoz was offered
a two year contract deal in Norway from Fredrikstad FC out of Norway's
premier league. He also represented his country as part of the US
Under 20 Men's National Team under head coach Thomas Rongen.
Out of college Munoz was drafted in the 3rd round of Major League Soccer's
supplemental draft by Chivas USA by then head coach Thomas Rongen. Munoz
played for two years professionally with Chivas USA playing his last year
with them under current head Men's US National Team Coach Bob Bradley.
Last year he played in the USL 1 division for the California Victory
and is now currently on reserves for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major
League Soccer.
Munoz began his coaching career as an assistant coach to Mauricio Ingrassia
on CRSC Brigade boys u17 premier boys in 2005.
He worked with Brigade until 2006 where the boys finished fourth in the
premier league and were crowned League Cup champions in 2006. Moving
to northern California he took over San Francisco United u18 boys and
lead them to a semi-final spot in State Cup. Since then he has worked
with the University of San Francisco men's team in the spring season and
the University of California Berkeley men's team in the fall as an assistant
coach to both programs. He helped lead the Golden Bears to a Pac-10
championship in fall 2007 and gained a 2nd round NCAA berth. He
was also head coach of a u16 boys team from Marin FC while playing for
the Victory.
He currently holds a U.S Soccer Federation 'C' coaching License. |
