
Gomez Named Goalkeeper Trainer
Rich
Gomez was introduced to the game of soccer at the age of five and started
playing at the age of seven. Rich started out in AYSO Region 55. When
asked what position do you want to play Rich answered “Goalie”
and he has been playing goalkeeper ever since.
After AYSO coach Rich played for two select teams. The H.B. Select coached
under Mike Silva and the Westminster Gauchos coached by Juan Pilon.
In High School coach Rich played for Marina High School from 1977-1980.
He made first team CIF his senior year. Coach Rich also played for the
Junior Surf Soccer team during his High School years.
Coach Rich attended Golden West College and played under coach Gica from
1980-1982. Coach Rich played 3 years in the semi-pro indoor speed soccer
league. He played two years with the Huntington Beach Dolphins. The Dolphins
were champions in 1982 and Rich was voted most valuable goalkeeper. Coach
Rich played his last season with the Los Angeles Lazers in 1984. Coach
Rich was recruited and invited to tryout for 4 major indoor soccer league
teams. The L.A. Lazers, the Las Vegas Americans, Kansas City Comets and
the Memphis Americans.
Coach Rich has also been involved as an instructor and trained in goalkeeping
clinics with David Jokerst (professional goalkeeper for the California
Surf & St Luis Stars). Other clinics with the NASL with Mike Mahoney(goalkeeper
with the Los Angeles Lazers & California Surf).
Coach Rich has been very active with various summer soccer camps as well
as individual development training sessions in Orange CO.
