Whitman began coaching with the Long Beach State 49ers in 2004 and was
elevated to the top assistant in 2006. In short order, 49er soccer has
established itself as an up-and-coming program, winning 26 games over
the last two seasons and going 12-5-3 followed by a 14-5-1 record and
Big West Championship in 2006 and 2007.
Thanks exclusively to Whitman's work with the goalkeepers, especially
Liz Ramos, the 49ers set the school-record for shutouts and goals against
average. The 49ers have also had the program's first-ever regional and
national (No. 25) ranking in 2005 and highest ranking (No. 21) in 2006.
In 2006, the team's 0.64 goals against average ranked 19th nationally.
Whitman has also spearheaded the program's three Golden Goal Fundraisers
and other fundraising events, which have raised close to $15,000 per season.
Previously, Whitman played at Stanford and continues to serve as the Head
Girls Goalkeeper Coach for the Olympic Development Program for the California
Youth Soccer Association of Southern California. She recently won a national
championship as an assistant with the `89 girls team and is currently
an assistant with the `91 team.
Whitman has served as the Head Girls Goalkeeper Coach since January, 2003,
where she trained all of the best female goalkeepers in the Southern California
state pool. Whitman helped in scouting players thoughout the region and
helped select players for various state teams. Whitman has also been a
coach for Maccabi USA Sports and their Junior and Youth National Girls
teams. The Maccabi team won a gold medal in Israel in 2005. They also
won gold in Australia and Chile.
Whitman is also coaching the U10 girls team and working with players associated
with the Cypress Futbol Club.
While a member Stanford's team from 1996-2000, the Cardinal reached three
NCAA Tournaments and won two Pacific-10 Championships. Whitman was twice
named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Academic
team (1998, 1999).
Whitman earned her bachelor's in international relations from Stanford
in 2000 and her Master's in sociology from Stanford in 2001. She earned
her teaching credential from CS Northridge in 2003, teaching fourth and
fifth grade at Garden Grove Elementary School in 2003 and 2004. Whitman

diplomas as well.
